Each keyboard is uniquely crafted just for you using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing technology with high-quality PLA or PETG materials. It's important to understand that the FDM 3D printing process, which builds your keyboard layer by layer, results in certain inherent visual characteristics. These are not defects but rather unique signatures of the additive manufacturing process and contribute to the individual character of your custom keyboard.
Here’s what you might notice:
Layer Lines: Fine, visible lines on the surface are a natural outcome of the layer-by-layer printing process. Their visibility can vary depending on the geometry and curves of the keyboard.
Surface Texture: The surface may not be perfectly smooth like injection-molded plastic. You might observe slight variations in texture or sheen. PLA typically offers a smoother matte or glossy finish, while PETG often has a glossier appearance.
Minor Blemishes (e.g., Stringing/Blobs): Tiny plastic strings ("stringing") or small surface bumps ("blobs") can occasionally occur, especially with PETG material, as the print nozzle moves. We do our best to minimize these through careful calibration and post-processing.
Support Marks: To create complex curves and overhangs, temporary support structures are needed during printing. After these are carefully removed, small marks or slight textural differences might remain where the supports connected to the main body. We strategically place these supports to minimize their visibility.
Slight Variations: As each keyboard is printed individually, minor variations in dimensions (within tolerance) or finish might exist between units.
These characteristics do not typically affect the keyboard's functionality, structural integrity, or usability. We believe they add to the unique charm and story of your custom-made keyboard.
